We have moms here at Jay Marks Real Estate who know how important it is in Texas to always have a list of go-to indoor attractions to keep the kids occupied.
They've compiled a list of some of the best indoor spots to head when the weather is too rainy, too hot or too cold to be outside.
#1: Perot Museum
The Perot Museum offers fun for all ages. They have their Moody Family Children's Museum which was created with children age 5 and younger in mind. They also have several other permanent exhibits including their Being Human Hall, the Expanding Universe Hall and their Gems and Minerals Hall.
If you think you're going to be a frequent visitor of the Perot, you can purchase a membership which provides benefits like free admission, discounts, and access to exclusive museum events and hours.
If your little ones are intrigued by animals, they'll love exploring the Dallas World Aquarium. In addition to all the fish and sea creatures you'd expect to find in an aquarium, you'll find flamingoes, tamarins, parrots, penguins, and (our personal favorite) their two-toed sloth.
You can purchase memberships to the aquarium which will grant you free admission for a year, access to the "members only" entrance, discounts, and priority seating at their eighteen-0-one restaurant.
This may not be the first place you think of when thinking of "kid-friendly" spots, but the Dallas Museum of Art offers lots of programs and activities for kids. They have their First Tuesdays where they host activities especially designed for children age five and under. They also have Summer Art Camps and additional classes and workshops throughout the year your kids can participate in.
The best part? General Admission to the museum is FREE every day, but admission to the classes and workshops do require you to purchase a ticket.
The LEGOLAND Discovery Center at Grapevine Mills Mall is jam-packed with fun activities for the whole family to enjoy. They have a 4D cinema, laser ride, and a LEGO Ninjago City Adventure where your kids can complete obstacle course challenges.
For nonstop fun throughout the year, you can purchase an annual pass which grants you unlimited access, discounts, and access to exclusive events. You can also purchase a Combo Annual pass for LEGOLAND Discover Center and the SEA LIFE Aquarium.
Right across from LEGOLAND Discovery Center at Grapevine Mills is the SEA LIFE Aquarium. They offer 16 interactive zones to explore including an interactive rockpool exhibit where your kids can touch sea stars, urchins, etc. But their most popular attraction is probably the Ocean Tunnel where fish, sharks, rays and turtles will swim next to, over and around you.
Just like with LEGOLAND Discovery Center, you can purchase an annual pass either exclusively to the aquarium, or you can purchase a Combo Annual pass with access to both attractions.
Play Street Museum has several locations around the DFW area, all offering a different play theme. In Frisco you'll find the "Town Square;" McKinney offers "The Farm;" and there's a location coming soon to Flower Mound that will be "The Park."
It was founded by a mother of four who knows the importance of allowing children to creatively play and problem solve based on her experience as a mother and in early childhood education.
#7: The Coop
The Coop in Frisco is a cool play and party space that both kids and parents will enjoy hanging out at. They offer indoor and outdoor play space including a gigantic ball pit, an electronic dance floor, a giant spiral slide, and a dress-up area. And for the parents they have a cappuccino bar and a fantastic magazine selection to keep you entertained while the kids play.
If you want unlimited access, you can purchase monthly passes and go back every day if you want to! (Pro Tip: On Tuesdays they offer $2 off admission for $2sday in Frisco Square).
#8: Going Bonkers
This Lewisville attractions was founded by a family, for families. It features thousands of square feet of playground, an arcade area, and a restaurant. And while the kids play, parents can watch from the sound-proof room featuring wireless Internet access and flat screen TV's. But with how fun the playground is, you might quickly find yourself climbing, bouncing and zip lining with the kids!
Altitude has several locations throughout DFW including Grapevine, Fort Worth-Keller, and Denton. It's an activity that suitable for all ages (including parents). They have foam pits, gymnastics tumble tracks, a kid zone, basketball dunking lanes, dodge ball and group fitness classes.
If you have toddlers, they offer Toddler Time Monday-Friday from 10:00am-1:00pm where your kids 6 and younger can jump for super cheap and you can join them for just $2 additional.
